Last weekend Young Gun and Tullamore headed to MCTA. The show ended up going well. Max was very obedient in the dressage. Kim actually said it needed to be turned up a bit. He show jumped well with one rail down due to pilot error. Cross country was amazing. We were perfectly in rhythm. Kim was especially helpful when walking the course to point out that directly presenting Max to the jump would make him too impulsive to get there. She had me try to pick a line and ride beyond the jump and then bring him onto the actual line of the jump 3 or 4 strides out. This worked very well. He ended up 5th in Open Intermediate.
Tullamore had not been out in over a year due to breaking her rib in a trailer accident last year while I was in California. She tends to be tough the first time out and she was very obstinate in the dressage. She choose to canter most of the test:) I definitely need to work to be better at improving the dressage test while in the ring and not just hoping it gets better. While she was not a dream boat in dressage she jumped super, double clear. She ended up 8th in Open Training.
Both horses will go to Virginia H.T in two weeks for their last event. Then I will be heading home for the summer to work with the Next Phase Eventing crew! Can’t wait to see everyone!!!!!
